Highlights of the Everest Base Camp Trek:
The journey itself starts with a short flight to Lukla- one of the most dangerous airports in the world. Unlike the hectic hustle and bustle of Kathmandu, the Everest region offers the fresh Himalayan environment that provides a tranquil environment. Then after, your constant companionship of the Himalayas begins as you move your feet through famous Sherpa villages and settlements. Spending a night over places like Namche Bazaar, Tengboche and Dingboche is a blessing in itself. Further, we will continue to make our way through the Sagarmatha National Park, UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site.
And that’s not the end Everest Base Camp Trek includes the vantage point as Kalapatthar- we can see a panorama of Mount Everest massif from there. And the best is an encounter of Tengboche Monastery, Khumbu Glacier and the Icefall in the area.
Difficulty level of Everest Base Camp Trek:
In spite of having the tough Himalayan terrain of the Khumbu, all people around the world can complete the EBC Trek- Slow and steady is the key.
Best season for Everest Base Camp Trek:
EBC looks majestic and capturing all season. But trials are more beautiful during Spring (March to May) and Autumn (Sept. to Nov.). During these months, the weather is warm and the sky is clear with outstanding views. But if you wish to avoid crowds and enjoy all the gifts of nature by yourself vacation season (Dec., Jan. and Feb.) could also be an option. However, be prepared to face the harsh temperature. Trekking in the summer (June to Aug.) is affected by rain but could be a boon for a keen botanist.
Day by day itinerary for Everest Base Camp:
Day 01 :
Arrive in Kathmandu (1,400 m).
We will welcome you from the airport and transfer to the hotel. During the evening hours, we will brief you about the program and plans during the trip.
Day 02 :
Fly to Lukla (2,804 m) and Trek to Phakding (2,610 m) – 3 hours
After breakfast, we will fly to Lukla. Over 30 minutes fly, you will experience one of the most dramatic short flights. Surrounded by mountains and jaded hills, the airport is quite fascinating. Over Lukla, the mountainous landscape becomes prominent and you feel that mountain. From Lukla, we will gradually walk downwards to the village of Phakding- the sight of the Kusum Kangraru Mountain is seen. Over Phakding we will spend over Guesthouse.
Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,441 m) – 5.5 hours.
After breakfast, the trail further climbs to reach the beautiful mountain town of Namche Bazaar after crossing smaller villages as Jorsale and Monjo. The trail ventures through Sagarmatha National Park before arriving at Namche. Overnight we will stay at the Guesthouse.
Acclimatization Day, Trek to Everest View Hotel
After breakfast, we can visit the Syangboche Airstrip (lies on a hill above the town). Here, you see the panoramic view of Himalayas as well. Further, from Namche there’s an Everest View Hotel: The hotel at the highest altitude in the world. Back at Namche, you will visit Sherpa Culture Museum and Everest Photo Gallery while we spend overnight at Namche.
Day 05 :
Trek to Tengboche (3,860 m) – 5 hours.
The trail from Namche opens to Dudh Koshi at the settlement of Phungki Thanka. We will move on matching with Dudh Koshi River to the village of Tengboche where we will crash for the night. The village has Tengboche Monastery, the largest monastery in the Khumbu region.
Day 06 :
Trek to Dingboche (4,350 m) – 5 hours.
After breakfast the trail move across the Imja River via a suspension bridge. For the night we will crash at Dingboche also called the “Summer Valley” of Khumbu. Here we can see the graceful views of Lhotse, the Ama Dablam, and the Island Peak.
Acclimatization day, Hike to Nangkartshang Peak (5,083 m) – 4 hours.
This is also an acclimatiztion day in Dingboche. For the day, we will to Nagerjun, 5100 meters. The hike is steep and requires a bit of strenuous energy. But the pain is worth for marvelous panorama of Lobuche West (6145m), Lobuche East (6119m), Kangtega (6685m), Taboche Peak (6367m), Ama Dablam (6856m) and Thamserku (6608m) can be seen.
Day 08 :
Trek to Lobuche (4,910 m) – 5 hours.
After breakfast, we will climb our way to Dhungla crossing Trekkers Aid Post at Pheriche (4210m). Then crossing the Chupki Lhara we will follow the path leading to the Khumbu Glacier moraine. We shall then check in our guesthouse at Lobuche for the night.
Day 09 :
Trek to Everest Base Camp (5,365 m) & walk to Gorak Shep (5,180 m) – 8 hours.
Today would be the most anticipated day of the trip. We will start slow from Lobuche and run alongside the sight the Khumbu Glacier to the right. We shall stop on reaching Gorakshep (5181m/16994ft) from where the to the top- finally arriving at the Everest Base Camp. Here, we get the sight of the Khumbu Icefall and Khumbutse and Lingtren mountains. After spending some hours at the base camp we shall return back to Gorakshep for the night.
Day 10 :
Morning Hike to Kala Patthar (5,555 m) & descending to Pheriche (4,200 m) – 7 hours.
Early morning we shall hike to Kalapatthar- a famous vantage point for the panoramic views of majestic Mount Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Chagatse and the Pumori among many other peaks. After witnessing the sunrise we will return to Gorakshep and descend to Pheriche for the night.
Day 11 :
Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,441 m) – 7 hours.
Today we will walk down a long way from Pheriche to Namche Bazar along with Imja River half away.
Day 12 :
Trek to Lukla (2,804 m) –6 hours.
The hike back to Lukla along a trail moves steeply down and crosses a suspension bridge. Chortens, prayer flags and small Gompas line along with Open plains, pine and rhododendron forests will make the descent fun.
Morning Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu and sightseeing:
After breakfast, we will fly to Kathmandu and the trekking part ends here. During the day we will be doing some sightseeing over the capital and stay in a hotel overnight.
